After graduating in 1970 with an associate’s degree in Architectural Engineering Technology from
Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, Massachusetts, John F. Sullivan, Jr. worked for William J. Gavin
Associates in Lowell, Massachusetts. There he was a field supervisor for residential and commercial projects, an
architectural draftsman, and a schedules coordinator, as well as being named Treasurer in 1986. In 1980 he
attended Boston Architectural Center in Boston, Massachusetts gaining valuable knowledge of architecture. In
1982 he founded New England Design Build, Inc., which entailed residential and light commercial construction.
He still owns NEDB but now restricts much of the work to major projects such as financial institutions and
subdivisions. In 1986 he became President of William J. Gavin Associates, changed the name in 1997 to Gavin
& Sullivan Architects, Inc. and focuses on residential, commercial, and historical architecture.
His extensive experience in the field of architecture and construction has facilitated him to be successful
today. The knowledge he has gained through his education and his vast experience has allowed him to work on
an array of projects from simple additions to complex commercial buildings.
